Delhi High Court Considers SOP for Online Personality Rights

The Delhi High Court is considering the creation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to manage cases involving the online misuse of personality rights. The move follows a plea filed by actor Tabu, who is seeking the removal of unauthorized, defamatory, and obscene content, including digital impersonations and AI-generated material, from various digital platforms.

During a recent hearing, Meta and Google agreed to remove identified infringing links, and GoDaddy discussed suspending associated domains. However, Reddit contested several takedown requests, asserting that some of the flagged clips were original excerpts from Tabu's professional work, such as the series 'A Suitable Boy', rather than manipulated deepfakes.

Justice Jyoti Singh stated that the rapid spread of objectionable content is a larger systemic concern, especially for women and children, which requires a structured mechanism to "nip such content in the bud." The court has reserved its order on interim relief and scheduled the next hearings for December 7.
