Marvell Technology Shares Drop 37% Amid AI Spending Skepticism

Marvell Technology shares fell 37% in July as investors questioned the returns on massive artificial intelligence capital expenditures across the semiconductor sector.

Marvell Technology shares declined 37% in July, part of a broader semiconductor sector sell-off that erased $1 trillion in market value. The downturn stems from growing investor skepticism regarding whether the massive capital expenditures dedicated to artificial intelligence will generate sufficient returns on investment.

Marvell's specific decline was accelerated when Erste Group downgraded the stock from a buy to a hold rating, stating that share prices had outpaced near-term growth expectations. Despite the July drop, the company maintains a price-to-earning ratio of approximately 64, which remains significantly higher than the tech sector average of 34.

Management guidance projects revenue will increase 35% to $2.7 billion. The company is scheduled to report its second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 27.
