Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited awarded solar pumping system contracts totaling nearly 600 crore to GK Energy Limited and Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) issued letters of empanelment to two companies to supply off-grid solar photovoltaic water pumping systems under the Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana. GK Energy Limited secured a contract valued at Rs 235.92 crore to deploy 10,000 pumps, bringing the company's total order value from MSEDCL to Rs 637.83 crore. Simultaneously, Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd. received an order worth Rs 353.89 crore for 15,000 pumping systems.
Both contracts cover the design, manufacture, supply, and commissioning of agricultural pumps ranging from 3 HP to 7.5 HP and require execution within 60 days of the work order issuance. Following the announcement, Shakti Pumps shares rose more than 8% in early trade on the BSE and NSE.
The procurement is part of a broader initiative launched by the Government of Maharashtra in 2024, which aims to provide 10 lakh solar pumps to farmers to expand irrigation across more than 10 lakh acres of land. The program seeks to provide sustainable irrigation energy and decrease reliance on conventional power sources.
