Digital Realty announced a $20 million community investment program to secure support for a new data center campus in De Soto, Kansas.
Digital Realty announced a $20 million community investment program for residents of De Soto, Kansas, to gain support for its planned data center campus at Astra Enterprise Park. The initiative offers local households annual credits of up to $1,000 for 10 years.
The project, which begins with the Astra North phase at the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, is expected to generate approximately 250 permanent jobs and thousands of construction positions. Construction is slated to begin in 2027.
Mayor Rick Walker stated the commitment aligns with the city's long-term vision for the site. However, some residents have criticized the financial offer as a "bribe" and raised concerns regarding electricity rates, water usage, and noise pollution. A public hearing for a tax increment financing district is scheduled for November 19.
