Republican John Braun Leads in Washington Third District Primary

Republican John Braun has overtaken incumbent Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in Washington's Third Congressional District as primary results near certification.

Primary election results from August 4 are nearing certification in Washington state, with voter turnout between 37% and 38% across Clark, Cowlitz, and Skagit counties. In the Third Congressional District, John Braun has overtaken incumbent Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in the vote count, although Gluesenkamp Perez maintains a fundraising advantage of over $6 million.

In the Second Congressional District, incumbent Rick Larsen and Republican Edwin Feller have advanced to the general election. Various state House and county-level races have also narrowed to the top two candidates who will compete on November 3.

Local results include the passage of a Fire District 8 levy increase in Skagit County. Conversely, a bond levy for a new headquarters for Clark County Fire District 10 failed after missing the required 60% supermajority by 15 votes. Following the result, Clark County Fire District 10 expressed curiosity regarding why 174 people submitted ballots but chose not to vote on that specific matter.
