APC Chairman Meets Senator Hanga Amid Defection Rumors

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nentawe Yilwatda met with Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on July 15, 2026, at Hanga's residence in Abuja. While Yilwatda described the encounter as a courtesy visit intended to promote peace, unity, and the future of Kano State, the meeting occurred amid reports that the APC is courting Hanga to strengthen its influence in the region.

Senator Hanga has expressed dissatisfaction with the NDC, specifically regarding his exclusion from the party's consensus candidate lists and the loss of his Kano Central seat and a potential Deputy Governorship slot to other candidates. This outreach by the APC follows the recent defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the ruling party.
