Greater Sudbury Considers $660,000 in Industrial Expansion Grants

The City of Greater Sudbury finance committee is reviewing $660,000 in grant proposals to fund facility expansions for MCA Contracting and SteelNorth Fabricators Ltd.

The City of Greater Sudbury finance committee is evaluating two community improvement plan proposals totaling approximately $660,000 to support local industrial growth. City staff have recommended the approval of both applications, stating that the projects will strengthen supply chains for the industrial and mining sectors while driving regional economic activity.

One proposal involves MCA Contracting, which is seeking a $297,573 tax increment equivalent grant. The funding would support a $3.3 million project to construct a 12,000-square-foot administrative and operational headquarters in the Walden Industrial Park in Lively. This project, proposed by the Alves Group, is expected to create five new jobs.

A second proposal comes from SteelNorth Fabricators Ltd., which is requesting approximately $360,000 for a $5.3 million expansion of its facility in Val Caron. The project aims to integrate modern manufacturing and robotic technologies and is projected to create 12 new full-time positions.
