South Korea Nuri Rocket Deploys 15 Satellites
South Korea successfully launched the Nuri rocket from the Naro Space Center, deploying 15 academic and commercial satellites into orbit.
The Government of South Korea successfully launched the Nuri rocket, officially known as the Korea Space Launch Vehicle (KSLV)-II), from the Naro Space Center in Goheung on Wednesday. The three-stage liquid-fueled vehicle deployed 15 satellites into a target altitude of 575 km, completing the most complex mission in the rocket's development history.
The payload consisted of five New-space Earth Observation Satellite Constellation for National Safety (NEONSAT) microsatellites and 10 smaller academic and commercial CubeSats. This mission marked a significant increase in operational complexity over the fourth launch, which carried only a single primary payload.
Following the successful deployment of all onboard satellites, the rocket is scheduled to perform collision-avoidance maneuvers before re-entering the atmosphere.
