Essex County Council Wins RTPI Planning Authority of the Year
Essex County Council received the Planning Authority of the Year award at the Royal Town Planning Institute East of England Planning Excellence Awards.
The planning service of Essex County Council won the Planning Authority of the Year award at the Royal Town Planning Institute East of England Planning Excellence Awards. Judges attributed the victory to the council's leadership on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, which are large-scale developments of national importance, and its strategic collaboration with various external partners to streamline development processes.
Reviewers specifically highlighted the council's progress on the Greater Essex Spatial Development Strategy, a long-term framework designed to coordinate land use and housing growth across the region. Further praise was directed at the built environment team for their development of an award-winning healthy homes standard, which sets specific criteria for improving living conditions and resident well-being within new housing projects.
Jeff Bray, the councillor for regeneration, planning and heritage, stated that the win reinforces the council's position as a leading authority in the eastern region and demonstrates its growing national reputation for excellence. He described the achievement as a testament to the exceptional work of the Planning Service.
Following this regional success, Essex County Council has been entered into the national RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence, which are scheduled to take place later this year.
