Ontario Residents Vote in 414 Municipal Elections
Ontario voters head to the polls on October 26 to elect mayors, councillors, and school board trustees across 414 municipalities.
Over 11.8 million eligible voters in Ontario will cast ballots on Monday, October 26, 2026, to select local leaders across 414 of the province's 444 municipalities. The elections determine the leadership for mayoral offices, city councils, and school board trustees, utilizing a mix of paper ballots, online systems, telephone voting, and mail-in options.
High-profile mayoral contests are centered in the province's largest cities. In Toronto, incumbent Olivia Chow faces a close challenge from Brad Bradford, while Ottawa sees a tight race between incumbent Mark Sutcliffe and Jeff Leiper. In Mississauga, former mayor Bonnie Crombie leads a four-way contest. Other significant races include Hamilton, where incumbent Andrea Horwath is seeking re-election, and open seats in Thunder Bay and Oshawa where incumbents are not running.
Campaigns across the province have focused on three primary systemic issues: housing affordability, homelessness, and public safety.
