Ukraine Intercepts High-Speed Russian Geran-5 Drone

The 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment of Ukraine intercepted a Russian Geran-5 one-way attack drone traveling at 425 kmph at an altitude exceeding 3 km. The engagement was documented in thermal footage released by the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, showing the use of a new interceptor drone specifically designed to counter jet-powered systems.
The Geran-5, a Russian variant of the Iranian Karrar drone, is the fastest of Russia's one-way attack drones and can reach speeds of 373 mph. This interception marks a significant combat achievement for Ukraine's interceptor program as the military shifts toward jet-engine designs to counter turbojet threats.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is currently field-testing at least four types of interceptor drones. Simultaneously, manufacturers such as Wild Hornets are deploying modified quadcopters, including the Sting-S, for similar interception missions.
