Piddington Village Votes to Join U.S. in Migrant Protest

Residents of Piddington, a village in Oxfordshire, England, have voted in a symbolic referendum to leave the United Kingdom and join the United States. The move serves as a protest against a British government plan to house up to 1,250 male asylum seekers at the nearby Bicester Garrison, a Ministry of Defense property.

In a vote held on July 4, 96% of participating residents supported proceeding with the independence declaration. While organizers acknowledge the referendum carries no legal weight, they intend to deliver a formal declaration to the U.S. Embassy. Residents expressed frustration over a total lack of government consultation and described the plan as an attempt to force the community to accept the influx.

The UK Home Office defended the strategy, stating that using former military sites reduces the government's reliance on hotels. The protest has gained international attention and support from Elon Musk, who argued the situation reflects a need for fundamental political change across Britain. Villagers indicated they believe U.S. President Donald Trump represents their best hope for blocking the migration plan.
