Mary Peltola Rejects Kamala Harris Endorsement Ahead of Alaska Primary

Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola distanced herself from an unapproved endorsement by former Vice President Kamala Harris days before Alaska's nonpartisan primary.

Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola rejected an endorsement from former Vice President Kamala Harris after a fundraising email was sent by Harris's political action committee. The Fight for the People PAC urged supporters to donate to both Peltola and the committee, characterizing the Alaska Senate race as a must-win for Democrats.

Peltola's campaign stated it had no prior knowledge of the appeal, did not approve the message, and is not seeking endorsements from individuals outside Alaska. The controversy emerges shortly before the August 18 nonpartisan primary.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee and the campaign of incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan used the endorsement to link Peltola to Harris. Republicans highlighted that Harris lost Alaska by 14 percentage points during the 2024 presidential election to suggest Peltola is out of step with the state's electorate.
