Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Reports Energy Project Progress Amid Iranian Attacks

Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced the North Field Gas project remains on track despite Iranian attacks and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced on October 13, 2026, that the North Field Gas project is progressing according to plan to increase the liquefied natural gas production capacity of Qatar. Speaking at the 55th annual session of the Shura Council, the Amir highlighted the progress of the Golden Pass project in the United States and the expansion of QatarEnergy's petrochemical industries and international partnerships.

The Amir addressed a regional crisis involving an Iranian attack on Qatari sovereignty. He noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and direct damage to energy facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City disrupted a significant portion of the country's exports.

Despite these energy sector disruptions, the Amir stated that non-hydrocarbon sectors continued to grow, contributing approximately 80% of real GDP.
