Gujarat Launches Data Centre Policy to Attract ₹6 Lakh Crore

The Gujarat government launched a new data centre policy targeting ₹6 lakh crore in investments and 7.5 GW of capacity to establish a global AI ecosystem.

The Government of Gujarat launched the Viksit Gujarat - Data Centre Policy 2026-29 on July 9, 2026, in Gandhinagar. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled the framework, which aims to attract ₹6 lakh crore in investments and establish 7.5 GW of data centre capacity by targeting hyperscale facilities, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and digital services.

To incentivize growth, the policy provides fiscal supports including capital and interest subsidies, power tariff support, SGST reimbursement, and stamp duty exemptions for projects with a minimum installed IT load of 150 MW. Non-fiscal measures include fast-track approvals and relaxed building norms. To support international connectivity, the state plans to establish two cable landing stations, with a third to be announced.

Sustainability is a core requirement, as the policy mandates that at least 51% of electricity for core operations be sourced from renewable energy. Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia noted that the state has already received proposals equivalent to 10 GW. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Das stated his confidence that the policy will generate significant employment and attract the targeted investment.
