PJM Interconnection Files Amended Power Auction Plan with FERC

PJM Interconnection submitted a revised emergency power auction plan to FERC to resolve regulatory flaws and secure energy for data centers.

Grid operator PJM Interconnection filed an amended Reliability Backstop Procurement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on October 29, 2026. The filing seeks to restart a one-time emergency power auction specifically for data centers, which had been frozen for five months.

Federal regulators previously halted the process, describing the original auction framework as "deeply flawed." The new submission aims to resolve three specific issues flagged by the commission to ensure the procurement process meets regulatory standards.

Under the revised timeline, bidding is scheduled to open on March 1, 2027. PJM expects to announce the winners of the auction by May 10, 2027. PJM manages the electrical grid for all or part of 13 states, including West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
