Explosion on Cambodia-Thailand Border Wounds Four Soldiers

Four Cambodian soldiers were wounded by an explosive device during a patrol in Oddar Meanchey province on July 5, 2026.

An explosive device detonated at 12:35 p.m. on July 5, 2026, in a cashew plantation area near Chouk Kruos and Thma Don villages in Oddar Meanchey province. The blast injured four Cambodian soldiers during a patrol operation. The incident occurred shortly after the Cambodian unit passed a Royal Thai Army patrol operating on the opposite side of a barbed wire fence.

Maly Socheata, undersecretary of state and spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia, confirmed the casualties and stated that the soldiers are receiving medical care. The ministry has since launched a comprehensive investigation using expert teams and its frontline Command Post to determine the cause of the explosion. Despite the incident, Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability through the 2025 Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement.

The Royal Thai Army denied involvement in the blast. Thai spokesperson Winthai Suvaree stated that Thai troops heard the explosion while conducting routine patrols on the Thai side of the border. A rapid investigation by Thai units concluded that the detonation took place on Cambodian territory and was not caused by Thai forces.
