Japan Dispatches Personnel to NATO Ukraine Training Headquarters

The Government of Japan announced it will dispatch four Self-Defense Forces personnel to the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine headquarters in Germany. This deployment marks the first time Japan has taken such a step to support the alliance's training efforts for Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China reacted to the move with grave concern. Spokesperson Lin Jian stated on June 1, 2026, that the dispatch represents a deepening of cooperation between Japan and NATO, which China views as a concerning development.
