Central Tibetan Administration Marks 66th Tibetan Democracy Day

The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) commemorated the 66th Tibetan Democracy Day on September 3, 2026, through coordinated events in Dharamshala and Darjeeling. In Dharamshala, Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang delivered official statements on behalf of the Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. The event also served as a platform for the launch of new publications concerning Tibetan foreign relations and the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama.

Guest speaker Wang Dan, a survivor of the Tiananmen Square crackdown, praised the democratic legitimacy of the Tibetan exile community. He contrasted this system with the Chinese Communist Party, which he claimed relies on "violence, lies, and control." Wang Dan further noted that Chinese pro-democracy activists are currently working to establish the China Congress, utilizing the Tibetan democratic experience as a model.

Simultaneous observances took place in Darjeeling, where Parliamentarian Tenzin Palmo and CRO Dorjee Rinzin led ceremonies. These activities included prayer services at Ghangchen Ri and events at the Sambhota Tibetan School. Both the Dharamshala and Darjeeling commemorations featured student cultural performances and the distribution of academic awards.
