LinkedIn Throttles AI Slop to Protect Authentic Expertise

Professional networking platform LinkedIn has implemented a series of measures to combat the proliferation of low-effort, AI-generated content, which the company defines as AI slop. The platform introduced a seems like AI slop reporting button that allows users to flag polished but generic content lacking unique perspective. Within the first two weeks of its launch, over one million users utilized the feature, contributing to a 40% reduction in views for content classified as AI slop.

To further discourage inauthentic posting, the company removed its enhance your post AI rewrite tool, replacing it with a grammar-focused proofreader designed to correct errors without altering the author's original voice. LinkedIn has also begun sending private notifications to creators via their analytics dashboards when community feedback suggests their writing feels inauthentic. These changes follow research from AI detection firm Pangram, which identified LinkedIn as the most AI-saturated social platform, with some analyses finding over 40% of long-form posts were fully AI-generated.

Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan stated that addressing AI slop is a top priority to ensure the platform remains a place for real people and perspectives. The company has also blocked billions of automation attempts and plans to expand profile and page verification. These efforts coincide with a broader shift in the job market toward quiet hiring, where recruiters prioritize authentic signals of expertise over performative, AI-driven thought leadership.
