Prologis Proposes 99 Megawatt Data Center in San Jose

Real estate firm Prologis has filed a special use permit with the city of San Jose to construct a 514,000-square-foot, three-story data center at 326 Charcot Ave. The proposed facility will replace five existing industrial and commercial buildings in North San Jose and is designed with a total power capacity of 99 megawatts.

The complex will include an onsite substation and backup generator. Prologis has committed to funding all electricity grid interconnection costs, including necessary substation upgrades and a second independently routed transmission line to ensure reliability. The firm also intends to pursue 100% carbon-free electricity through the Total Clean Energy program in San Jose.

This development follows a significant surge in data center demand driven by artificial intelligence. Pacific Gas and Electric Company reports that its pipeline of proposed data centers grew from 5.09 gigawatts in March to 12.71 gigawatts by the end of June.
