BlackBerry Expands QNX Software into Robotics and Physical AI

BlackBerry Limited is expanding its business strategy beyond automotive software to target the robotics sector. The company is leveraging QNX, its operating system for software-defined vehicles, to enter new markets including warehouse robots, surgical systems, autonomous vehicles, and industrial automation.

CEO John Giamatteo identifies physical AI as a primary growth opportunity. He argues that safety-certified software will become increasingly critical as more machines connect. As part of this strategic pivot, the company is updating its encryption technology to address cybersecurity threats posed by quantum computing and AI.

Giamatteo also warned that government reliance on consumer messaging apps creates significant security risks, emphasizing the need for more secure communication infrastructure.
