Ndindi Nyoro Joins People’s Party of Kenya to Oppose Ruto
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro resigned from the ruling UDA party to join the People’s Party of Kenya and build an opposition coalition for the 2027 election.
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro resigned from the ruling United Democratic Alliance to join the People’s Party of Kenya, signaling a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election. During a televised address at the Safari Park hotel in Nairobi, Nyoro accused the administration of President William Ruto of failing to deliver on campaign promises and stated that his views on governance no longer align with the government.
Nyoro revealed the move followed nearly a year of consultations with senior opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. While he has not formally declared a presidential bid, Nyoro intends to use the People’s Party of Kenya as a national vehicle and a platform for all opposition presidential aspirants to coordinate a joint strategy.
To explain his break from the government, Nyoro plans to conduct grassroots tours across Rift Valley counties, specifically targeting Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Bomet, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Kericho. Opposition leaders, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, welcomed Nyoro into the fold, citing a shared goal to unseat President Ruto.
