U.S. Army Green Berets Train Polish Forces in Drone Warfare

The U.S. Army is leading drone warfare exercises for Polish special forces at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany. Beginning August 28, 2026, the drills mark the first time a NATO ally has participated in this specific training, which was originally developed for U.S. Army Green Berets.

The exercise requires Polish forces to covertly bypass a U.S. Army airborne infantry unit and traverse approximately 60 miles of the Bavarian countryside to destroy a simulated target in Grafenwoehr. The training emphasizes blending into local populations and deploying drone strikes while avoiding enemy surveillance, utilizing lessons learned from the war in Ukraine to replicate modern battlefield challenges.

U.S. officials plan to conduct these drills several times a year, with the potential to eventually include personnel from all 32 NATO member states. This collaboration occurs as CIA Director John Ratcliffe recently visited Moscow to warn Russia against attacking NATO members. However, the initiative coincides with conflicting signals from the Trump administration regarding U.S. troop levels in Europe and the recent closure of a U.S. Army drone warfare unit.
