Peter Thiel Acquires 1% Stake in Vista Oil
Peter Thiel purchased a 1% stake in Vista, an oil company operating in Argentina's Vaca Muerta shale formation, for approximately $76 million.
Peter Thiel, the chair and co-founder of Palantir, acquired a 1% stake in Vista through his hedge fund, Thiel Macro LLC. According to a United States Securities and Exchange Commission filing published Friday, the investment consisted of approximately 1.2 million American Depositary Shares valued at about $76 million.
The investment follows a meeting four months ago between Thiel and Argentine President Javier Milei, where the two discussed economic policies and their shared opposition to wealth taxes.
Vista operates in the Neuquen province of Patagonia within the Vaca Muerta shale formation, which contains the world's second-largest shale gas and fourth-largest oil reserves. The company has invested over $6.5 billion in the region and currently produces 160,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
