Factorial Energy and SK On Partner to Scale Solid-State Batteries
Factorial Energy Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding with SK On to evaluate the mass production of next-generation solid-state battery technologies using existing manufacturing infrastructure.
Factorial Energy Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean battery manufacturer SK On to evaluate the technical feasibility and industrialization of next-generation solid-state battery technologies. The partnership focuses on determining whether SK On's existing lithium-ion battery infrastructure and global manufacturing footprint can support the production of Factorial's FEST solid-state battery technologies.
Factorial is pursuing a capital-light approach to industrialization, seeking to leverage established facilities instead of constructing new plants. SK On currently maintains over 200 GWh of annual production capacity worldwide and supplies major automotive companies, including Ford and Hyundai. This global network includes significant operations in Georgia and Tennessee in the United States.
Siyu Huang, CEO of Factorial Energy Inc., noted that a battery breakthrough depends on the ability to manufacture it at scale. Ki-soo Park, head of the Institute of Future Technology at SK On, stated that the collaboration allows the company to evaluate manufacturing readiness by drawing on its battery technology and manufacturing expertise.
