Netflix Uses Generative AI in 300 Titles for 2026
Netflix integrated generative AI into approximately 300 titles to reduce costs and accelerate post-production workflows, while acquiring Ben Affleck's AI startup InterPositive.
Netflix disclosed in its second-quarter 2026 earnings report that generative AI workflows were used in approximately 300 titles this year. The technology is integrated throughout the production lifecycle—from concept and pre-visualization to delivery—with the heaviest concentration of use occurring in post-production.
The company utilized AI to create complex sequences, such as enhanced crowd sizes and battle scenes, in titles including the Indian series Glory, the Brazilian miniseries Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri, and the U.S. docuseries The American Experiment. To expand these capabilities, Netflix acquired InterPositive, an AI filmmaking startup co-founded by Ben Affleck, in March 2026. The company is also establishing an AI animation studio and using an AI-generated voice of Gene Wilder for the upcoming show Wonka’s The Golden Ticket.
Co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated that AI-enhanced footage in The American Experiment was produced twice as fast and at half the cost of traditional methods. He defended the technology as a tool for creators rather than a replacement for professional artists, noting that some key shots would have been unaffordable or time-prohibitive without AI.
These developments coincide with a quarterly revenue of $12.56 billion, a 13.4% year-over-year increase. This strategic shift toward AI comes amid ongoing industry tensions regarding copyright and the potential for AI to replace creative labor, issues that previously fueled Hollywood strikes in 2023.
