QatarEnergy Gathers 12 LNG Tankers in Persian Gulf

QatarEnergy has positioned 12 empty liquefied natural gas tankers in the Persian Gulf, signaling a potential increase in fuel exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

QatarEnergy has amassed a fleet of at least 12 empty liquefied natural gas tankers in the Persian Gulf. Satellite images and ship-tracking data show these ballast carriers, which the state-owned company owns or charters, are currently waiting in waters near Qatar.

The vessels have a combined capacity of approximately 1.1 million tons of LNG, which represents roughly 2% of the total carrying capacity of the global tanker fleet. This strategic accumulation of shipping assets suggests that Qatar is preparing to increase its fuel exports through the Strait of Hormuz.
