Oracle Outlines Shift to Distributed AI Infrastructure

During The Six Five Summit: AI Unleashed 2026, Oracle Corporation argued that enterprise AI is moving from experimental pilots into full-scale production. This transition is driving a surge in demand for distributed cloud architectures designed to bring AI capabilities directly to where data resides, rather than moving sensitive information into separate platforms.

Karan Batta, Senior Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, explained that this approach is essential for meeting data residency, sovereignty, and compliance requirements in highly regulated sectors, including finance, healthcare, and government. He noted that multi-cloud strategies have evolved from defensive measures against vendor lock-in into offensive strategies that allow organizations to select the best services across different providers.

Oracle currently operates 50 to 70 dedicated regions and Oracle Alloys globally, with a database platform that spans Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Amazon Web Services. Batta warned that inference costs are likely to become the largest operating expense for enterprises, which will require a focus on hardware-agnostic design and long-term economic optimization.
