Barclays Plans Re-entry Into Indian Equity Offerings Market
Barclays Bank plans to re-enter the Indian equity offerings market to provide clients with a full suite of investment banking products.
Barclays Bank is planning to re-enter the Indian equity offerings market to complement its existing services in corporate banking, financing, and mergers and acquisitions. India CEO Pramod Kumar announced the move during the New Economy Forum, stating the bank intends to provide clients with a full suite of products.
Kumar described India as a "long term structural opportunity," pointing to GDP growth exceeding 7% and strong interest from domestic institutional and retail investors. He noted a particular surge in startups within the infrastructure, consumer tech, and fintech sectors.
The bank's decision follows significant momentum in the IPO market, which Kumar attributed to financial and sponsor investors seeking exits through block trades and initial public offerings.
