Citadel Securities Warns French Bond Spreads Will Remain High
Citadel Securities reports that French government bond spreads have stabilized but will likely maintain a higher trading range due to ongoing sovereign stress.
Financial services firm Citadel Securities analyzed the recent widening of French government bond spreads, concluding that current volatility is comparable to previous episodes of monetary tightening and sovereign stress. The firm noted that while the initial spread widening was partly driven by deleveraging in front-end asset swaps, the situation has since stabilized.
Frank Flight, head of Macro Strategy at Citadel Securities, stated that contagion to the wider euro area has remained relatively contained. The analysis suggests that a more constructive tone from political leader Marine Le Pen provided some market relief during the period of instability.
Despite this stabilization, Citadel Securities expects that bond spreads will not return to pre-crisis levels. The firm predicts that a higher and wider trading range will persist for the foreseeable future, indicating prolonged market pain for French sovereign debt.
