Idaho Gasoline Prices Hit Record $5 Per Gallon Mark

Average regular gasoline prices in Idaho reached approximately $5 per gallon by September 24, 2026, placing the state among seven U.S. jurisdictions to hit this benchmark. AAA Idaho reported a 10-cent overnight jump to a state average of $4.96, with prices in Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Twin Falls all exceeding $5. Rural areas experienced even steeper increases, with Clark County reporting averages as high as $5.70.

Price volatility intensified throughout late September. In Boise, prices hit $5.04 on September 22 following a 17-cent overnight spike. This represents a sharp increase from the previous year's average of $3.54. Diesel prices also reached record highs, ranging between $6.59 and $6.65 per gallon, compared to $3.83 a year ago.

Matthew Conde of AAA Idaho attributed these spikes to global conflicts in Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East, which have pressured the crude oil market. These costs remained high despite the West Texas Intermediate benchmark dropping from $95 to near $91 per barrel. Idaho currently ranks as the ninth most expensive state for fuel in the United States.
