General Motors to Launch Hybrid Three-Row SUVs
General Motors will introduce hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia to regain lost U.S. market share.
General Motors plans to introduce hybrid versions of its three-row SUVs, specifically the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia. The company will manufacture these vehicles at a factory in Lansing, Michigan.
This strategic shift follows a decline in GM's U.S. market share, which fell to 16.6% in the first nine months of the year from 17.4% the previous year. The pivot comes after heavy investment in electric vehicles and responds to pressure from dealers as high gas prices drive consumers toward hybrids, benefiting competitors such as Toyota and Honda.
CEO Mary Barra confirmed the company will offer hybrids across multiple segments. She stated that these models have already been added to the production plan and will not require additional engineering or capital expenditures.
