Nigeria Debate Consortium Schedules Lagos Governorship Debate

The Nigeria Debate Consortium will host the Lagos State governorship debate on November 8, 2026, to evaluate candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Nigeria Debate Consortium has scheduled the Lagos State governorship debate for Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at The Hub by IALA, House of His Glory in Lekki, Lagos. This debate serves as the first in a series of electoral engagements in battleground states leading up to the 2027 general elections, which will eventually culminate in a presidential debate and town hall.

The consortium is a non-partisan collaboration between five media organizations: Channels Television, TVC News, PUNCH Newspaper, TheCable, and Vanguard Newspaper. The platform is designed to move beyond political rhetoric, requiring candidates to discuss specific policy plans for transportation, infrastructure, security, housing, education, healthcare, job creation, and economic growth.

Participating candidates include Obafemi Hamzat of the All Progressives Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the African Democratic Congress, and Funso Doherty of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The session will be moderated by experienced journalists and broadcast across the consortium's national and digital platforms to help voters assess the readiness of those seeking the mandate.
