Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh Approve Diwali Bonuses for State Employees
The governments of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have approved Diwali bonuses and financial incentives for state transport and government employees.
State governments in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have announced financial bonuses and allowances for public employees ahead of the Diwali festival.
In Maharashtra, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that approximately 83,000 employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation will receive a bonus of ₹10,000 each. The government also increased the dearness allowance for these staff members from 58 percent to 60 percent and provided a festival advance of ₹12,500 for eligible personnel. These measures, totaling approximately ₹160 crore, were announced during a meeting with employee unions in Bandra. Sarnaik urged staff to avoid strikes to ensure the continued service of 55 lakh daily passengers.
Separately, the Government of Uttar Pradesh approved a 30-day bonus for non-gazetted state government employees, including staff from local bodies, district panchayats, and educational institutions, for the 2025-26 financial year. Daily-wage employees are eligible for a bonus of up to ₹1,184. The state will pay 25 percent of the bonus in cash and deposit the remaining 75 percent into provident fund accounts, though retirees and those nearing retirement will receive the full amount in cash.
