Rural Hall Town Council Approves Proposed Data Center Project

The Rural Hall Town Council reversed its previous opposition to a proposed data center project, voting on June 22, 2026, to approve a resolution supporting the development. This shift followed modifications to the developer's plans, which included increasing site setbacks and reducing the total number of buildings to address community concerns.

Mayor Terry Bennett supported the resolution, citing a written commitment from the developer that would allow the town to annex the site and collect tax revenue if the project moves forward. The town's approval removes a significant municipal hurdle, though the project's viability remains dependent on a rezoning request.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will make the final determination on that rezoning request during their scheduled meeting on July 30.
