Three Pakistanis Die in Recovery of Hijacked Vessel

The Foreign Office of Pakistan is coordinating the repatriation of crew members after a recovery operation for the hijacked MT Honour 25 off Somalia.

A recovery operation to retrieve the hijacked vessel MT Honour 25 off the coast of Somalia resulted in five deaths, including three Pakistani crew members: Rafi Ullah Khan, Syed Kashif Umer, and Mahmood Ahmed Ansari. The crew had been held captive since April 11.

The Foreign Office of Pakistan is coordinating with the Federal Government of Somalia and diplomatic representatives in Garowe and Addis Ababa to manage medical care and repatriation. Four Pakistani crew members—Yasir Khan, Aqeel Khan, Amin bin Shams, and Usman Ghani—were rescued during the operation. Additionally, four crew members were injured, including three Pakistanis, who were moved from Bandar Beyla to Garowe for treatment.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attributed the rescue to the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistani Embassy in Djibouti. The bodies of the deceased are expected to be transported via Addis Ababa airport using Ethiopian Airlines once local procedures are completed.
