Ring Inc. Partners With Flock Safety For Police Footage Requests

Amazon's Ring Inc. has entered a partnership with surveillance company Flock Safety Inc. to integrate its Neighbors app with the FlockOS and Nova platforms. This collaboration enables over 5,000 local law enforcement agencies to request video footage from users by providing an investigation code, the incident's location, timeframe, and details regarding the alleged crime. Participation remains voluntary, and Ring Inc. maintains that law enforcement cannot see which users receive or respond to these requests.

This initiative marks a strategic reversal under founder Jamie Siminoff, who returned to Amazon in April 2025. Siminoff's return follows a 2024 decision to discontinue the Request for Assistance feature, which had previously allowed warrantless requests for footage. In addition to the Flock partnership, Ring Inc. has collaborated with Axon Enterprise, Inc. to integrate footage requests into evidence management systems. The company is also exploring the addition of facial recognition and an opt-in feature that would allow users to livestream doorbell feeds directly to police.

The rollout has sparked privacy concerns, particularly regarding Flock Safety Inc.'s use of license plate recognition technology. U.S. Senator Ron Wyden questioned the partnership, noting that federal entities including the Secret Service and the U.S. Navy’s Criminal Investigative Service have previously accessed Flock Safety Inc.'s systems.
