Crédit Mutuel Arkéa Reports Cyberattack and Fraudulent Transfers

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa suspended transactions after a cyberattack led to fraudulent transfers, with reports suggesting losses as high as $133 million.

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa suspended certain transactions on Wednesday after a cyberattack enabled fraudulent movements of funds. The French bank stated the incident is now under control and guaranteed that customers will suffer no financial loss.

While the bank has not confirmed the exact amount stolen, the regional newspaper Le Télégramme reports that $133 million (€118 million) was taken. The bank told Le Parisien that some funds were frozen and the total amount is still being assessed.

Independent cryptocurrency investigator ZachXBT first identified the fraud, stating that the stolen funds were routed through multiple accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges.
