Over One Million Tennesseans Vote Early Before November 3
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett reported over one million early ballots cast as early voting concluded on October 29 ahead of the November 3 general election.
More than one million residents of Tennessee cast ballots during the early voting period for the state and federal general election scheduled for November 3. Tre Hargett, the Tennessee Secretary of State, urged registered voters to utilize the final day of early voting on October 29, reporting that equipment across the state functioned properly and that voters were able to cast ballots efficiently.
Turnout showed significant growth in several regions. Shelby County reported a 60 percent increase in early voting compared to 2022, while Madison County, Tennessee, saw over 13,000 ballots cast as of October 27. Voters in Tennessee are deciding on a new governor, a District 80 state representative, and three proposed constitutional amendments.
Preparation efforts also occurred in neighboring regions. In Madison County, Alabama, local leaders conducted voting machine tests on October 28 to ensure accuracy and minimize technical issues before the November 3 polls open. Similar surges in early voting were reported in Maryland, where the State Board of Elections noted a 63 percent increase in initial turnout compared to 2022, and in Virginia, where early ballot counts exceeded those of the previous midterms.
