Aliko Dangote Launches Refinery IPO and Plans Fertilizer Listing
Aliko Dangote launched an IPO for his petroleum refinery and announced a 2028 public offering for his fertilizer business as part of a $50 billion African expansion.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE launched an initial public offering on Monday, offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 each. The offering aims to democratize ownership of strategic assets, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares costing N5,250 to encourage retail participation from Nigerians across all social segments, including traders and employees.
Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Industries Limited, also announced plans for a second initial public offering in 2028 for the group's fertilizer business. He intends for the fertilizer entity to become the largest of its kind globally by expanding urea production from 3 million to 12 million tonnes and developing potash and phosphate mines to meet over 40% of Africa's demand.
These moves are part of a broader investment strategy totaling between $46 billion and $50 billion across Africa. This includes a planned $16 billion refinery in Kenya, a $3.5 billion pipeline linking Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa, and over $10 billion dedicated to the power sector. The petroleum refinery plans to double its crude-processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by early 2029, after which it intends to seek a listing on the New York Stock Exchange.
