NATO Scrambles Jets After Russian Drones Target Ukraine
NATO deployed Spanish fighter jets in Romania after Russian drone attacks in Ukraine triggered air alerts near the alliance border.
NATO scrambled two Spanish F-18 fighter jets from the Mihail Koglniceanu airbase in Romania during the night of October 9-10. The deployment followed Russian drone assaults on Ukraine that triggered air alerts near the Romanian border.
The Ministry of National Defense of Romania detected aerial targets in Ukrainian airspace approximately 20km north of Periprava and 15km east of Vylkove. While authorities issued emergency RO-Alert warnings to residents in northern Tulcea County, the ministry confirmed that no incursions into Romanian national airspace occurred.
Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's top military commander and a US Air Force General, stated that the alliance is prepared to fight if Russia attacks a member state, though he noted that NATO does not want war.
