Baltic Exchange Dry Bulk Freight Index Hits August Low
The Baltic Exchange dry bulk freight index fell 2.2% to 3,002 points on Tuesday, driven by a significant decline in capesize vessel earnings.
The Baltic Exchange dry bulk freight index dropped 68 points, or 2.2%, to 3,002 points on Tuesday. This decline represents the lowest level for the index since August 25.
The downturn was primarily driven by the capesize index, which fell 4% to 4,638 points, marking its weakest position since August 21. Average daily earnings for capesize vessels, which are typically used to transport coal and iron ore, decreased by $1,769 to a total of $38,561.
Other vessel categories showed more stability. The panamax index saw a marginal increase of 0.1% to 2,366 points, while average daily earnings for those vessels rose by $21 to $21,294.
