Vicente Gonzalez Wins Reelection to Texas 34th District
Democrat Vicente Gonzalez defeated Republican Eric Flores to win reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas' 34th Congressional District.
Vicente Gonzalez won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas' 34th Congressional District on Tuesday. The Democrat defeated Republican challenger Eric Flores in a race for the largely Hispanic district located in the Rio Grande Valley.
Gonzalez, an attorney who has served five terms in the House, secured the victory despite Republican efforts to target the seat through state redistricting designed to favor the GOP. The Associated Press declared Gonzalez the winner at 10:51 p.m. EST.
Eric Flores, a former assistant U.S. attorney and Texas National Guard infantry captain, lost the bid for the seat.
