Police Detain Thousands as CJP Protests Target Election Chief
The Cockroach Janta Party led nationwide protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, resulting in mass detentions by police in Delhi and Goa.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organized widespread demonstrations on Sunday, October 11, 2026, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls.
In Delhi, security forces implemented a massive clampdown, detaining over 7,000 demonstrators on Saturday and continuing arrests on Sunday as protesters marched toward Jantar Mantar. Union Minister Chirag Paswan condemned the actions, stating that the protests were meant to promote anarchy. Paswan also criticized the Indian National Congress for its involvement and for remaining silent regarding sexual harassment allegations against Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam.
Simultaneously in Goa, police blocked entry to Azad Maidan, forcing demonstrators onto main roads and the streets outside police headquarters. Authorities detained dozens of people, including CJP leader Amreen Shaikh and former Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Ferdin Rebello. Rebello, who leads the Enough Is Enough movement, challenged the police blockade, asserting that entering the venue was not an offense and that the movement was fighting against the misuse of power by the Election Commission.
