Dubai Utility Invests $2.72 Billion in Power Network

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority invested over AED 10 billion to expand electricity transmission networks and substations to meet rising power demand.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority invested over AED 10 billion ($2.72 billion) in electricity transmission network projects to address increasing power demand. During the first half of 2026, the utility commissioned eight 132-kilovolt transmission substations with a combined capacity of 1,200 megavolt-amperes, as well as a 400/132kV substation located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

Recent expansion efforts include awarding 21 contracts for new 132kV substations and contracts for 64 km of transmission cables valued at approximately AED 3 billion. The authority is currently constructing 65 new 132kV substations and one 400kV substation. Plans for the next three years include tendering an additional 30 132kV substations and two 400kV substations.

These infrastructure investments align with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the authority's Managing Director and CEO, stated the utility is committed to meeting current and future requirements while keeping pace with growing demand.
