Morrisons Expands Snappy Shopper Delivery and Trials AI Trolleys

Morrisons is adding 300 convenience stores to the Snappy Shopper delivery platform and trialing AI-powered Caper smart trolleys at its Preston location.

Morrisons is implementing two major technology initiatives to modernize its UK operations, expanding its rapid delivery network and trialing AI-powered in-store hardware. The supermarket is adding 300 Morrisons Daily convenience stores across England and Wales to the Snappy Shopper platform. This rollout, expected to conclude by August, allows customers to order essentials and own-brand products via the Snappy Shopper and Foodhub platforms, with free delivery for orders over £35. Logistics are managed by Nash, with JetGo serving as the preferred last-mile delivery partner.

This delivery expansion follows an average order value of £31 across the existing estate and comes as the company manages a broader restructuring, which includes closing approximately 100 loss-making convenience stores while opening new franchises.

Separately, the retailer has launched a trial of Caper smart trolleys at its store in Preston in partnership with Instacart. These AI-powered trolleys automatically detect items and weigh produce, allowing customers to bypass traditional conveyor belts and pay via dedicated checkout lanes. Productivity Director Gordon Macpherson noted the trolleys provide real-time visibility of spending and instant access to savings for customers.
