Constellation Energy Secures $5 Billion DOE Loan for Nuclear Uprates
Constellation Energy Corporation received a $5 billion conditional loan commitment from the U.S. Department of Energy to increase electricity production at existing nuclear facilities.
Constellation Energy Corporation secured a conditional loan commitment of up to $5 billion from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing. Provided through the DOE’s UPRISE program, the funding supports nuclear uprates designed to increase electricity production at existing facilities across nine sites in Illinois, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
This government commitment follows significant private-sector momentum, including more than $7 billion in agreements with Google and Amazon to add approximately 1,080 megawatts of capacity. The company also reached an agreement with Meta for a 30-megawatt expansion at the Clinton Clean Energy Center.
CEO Joe Dominguez stated the loan commitment can help the company move faster to put more reliable power on the grid and strengthen American energy security. U.S. Secretary of Energy Alfie Moon noted that the commitment reflects the administration's support for maximizing nuclear power generation. The loan remains subject to due diligence and the negotiation of definitive financing documents.
