Garden Route Voters Prepare for November 4 Local Elections

Voters in South Africa's Garden Route region will cast ballots for local government elections on November 4, 2026, during a declared public holiday.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa has scheduled local government elections for Wednesday, November 4, 2026, for voters in the Garden Route region. The government has declared the election day a public holiday, with polling stations operating from 07:00 to 21:00.

Residents in George, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Bitou, Oudtshoorn, Hessequa, and Kannaland will use a three-ballot system. This includes a grey and white ballot for an individual ward councillor, a yellow ballot for a political party on the local municipal council, and a green ballot for a political party on the Garden Route District Council. Voters in metropolitan areas will receive only two ballots.

To participate, citizens must present a valid temporary identity certificate, a smart ID card, or a South African green barcoded ID book at their registered voting station. The commission is providing registration details through its official website and WhatsApp.
