Jamie Davis Addresses Polling Gap at Louisiana Senate Forum
U.S. Senate candidate Jamie Davis discussed campaign finances and polling deficits after opponent Julia Letlow declined to attend a Baton Rouge forum.
U.S. Senate candidate Jamie Davis addressed his campaign's challenges during a Monday forum at the Baton Rouge Press Club after his opponent, Julia Letlow, declined to attend. Davis reported that internal polling currently places him four points behind Letlow.
The candidates are employing divergent financial strategies. Davis has raised $4 million through small individual donations and refuses corporate PAC money. In contrast, Letlow maintains a war chest of nearly $7 million, supported by large individual donations, over $1.5 million in PAC funds, and a $4 million transfer from her U.S. House campaign.
Political consultants noted that the national Democratic Party has provided no financial support to Davis, which some interpret as a sign that the party considers Louisiana unwinnable. Davis has focused his efforts on grassroots outreach and door knocking to close the gap before election day.
